Pen
Freehand ink that follows the cursor exactly — the tool you reach for by default.
Press and drag; the stroke ends when you release.
Highlighter
Thick translucent ink: it covers what is underneath without hiding it.
Drag across the area you want to mark.
Text
Typed labels for names, numbers and short notes.
Click where the text should start and type; click elsewhere to finish.
Eraser
Removes whole strokes, not pixels — one pass takes the shape with it.
Drag across the strokes you want gone.
Line
A straight segment between two points.
Drag from one end to the other.
Arrow
A line with a head — for pointing at something rather than joining two points.
Drag from the tail towards whatever you are pointing at.
Rectangle
A rectangle for framing a region of the screen.
Drag from one corner to the opposite one.
Ellipse
An oval for circling one item or a group of them.
Drag to set the box the ellipse fits into.
Triangle
Three corners you place yourself — what you mark is rarely equilateral.
Click three times, once per corner; it is not drawn by dragging.
Cardinal axis
Two perpendicular lines through one centre — four directions in a single move.
The first press sets the centre and the same drag gives direction and length; after that every axis starts from that centre.
Worksheets
Open as many as you like, give each one its own name, and move between them without losing a single stroke.
Magnifier
A lens you can grab and move while the screen stays live underneath.
